As a bona fide lip product junkie, I have had my fair share of lip balms. On any given day, I can easily have at least three to five different lip products in my purse –the majority of them being various types of lip balms. In my experience, when it comes to lip care, the greener the product the better.  Not only for the obvious environmental and animal-protective benefits but because they just taste better!

Conventional lip products often contain a ton of fillers and preservatives that both smell and taste very artificial and like plastic.  It’s really nice to know that there are much healthier options out there that not only smell delicious but taste delicious as well.  Might as well have those features being so close to your mouth and getting ingested to a degree throughout the day as you reapply, speak, drink, eat, etc.

Below you’ll find my top 5 favorite lip balms to use on any given day. Whether you are new to trying out lip balms or new mother who wants to avoid toxins being exposed to their kids or future kids, you will find something that will work for you and within your budget.

Dr. Bronner's Lip BalmDr. Bronner’s Organic Lip Balms $2.99

This lip balm is probably one of the cleanest ones I’ve ever tried.  It’s organic, clean, and still delivers a satisfying amount of smoothness and lubrication.  If you don’t like a lot of fragrance, this is definitely the one for you.  A perfect gift for beauty minimalists.

These balms are made with hemp oils, avocado and jojoba oil with only essential oils used for fragrance.

Burt's Bees Lip BalmBurt’s Bees All-Weather Moisturizing Balm SPF 15  $4

I really like their new formula which is much more smooth and free of lanolin. It’s such a relief because usually, I would be so excited to see this lip balm and try it except for the fact that they used to have that ingredient which would aggravate my eczema. Thank God for change!  And the added SPF makes it particularly good sporty lip balm for long hikes, workouts, travel or any other activity you’re doing under the sun.

Weleda Lip BalmWeleda Everon Lip Balm $7.00

This is one of the first lip balms that I ever fell in love with. When I first discovered this product, I think I went through about five tubes of this non-stop before wanting to try out other formulas and flavors. It has a really rich rosy, honey-like fragrance and flavor and has a thicker feeling upon application than most lip balms on the market. It might feel a little too thick for some and potentially even a little dry at first depending on how dry your lips are when you put it on. But, I find that with a little warming up from my body heat or adding a little vegetable oil to get it going, it is able to apply on very smoothly. You can easily find this at any drugstore like Walgreens or Target.

Lucas Paw Paw OintmentLucas Paw Paw Ointment $15

I learned about this ointment from a Michelle Phan video a few years ago. She had been visiting Australia and upon leaving for her flight back to the states, one of her fans threw her a tube of this and she found it to be a really amazing lip moisturizer. I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy the slight tang and sweet aroma from the papaya extract in this but I was also really surprised and impressed with how deeply penetrating and moisturizing it was even though it is petrolatum based. This petrolatum according to the website is organic and it definitely penetrates to the deeper levels.  And it doesn’t make my lips peel unlike other petroleum-based lip products. It doesn’t even feel greasy!

Veloutée ComplexeIn Fiore Veloutée Complexe – Multipurpose Balm For Lips & Eyes $60.00

And finally, if you have extra cash to splurge and really enjoy a nice strong floral fragrance (albeit from a natural source like flowers and herbs), this lip balm is super decadent and very deeply penetrating. It just smells like an exquisite garden and will definitely make you feel like a goddess just looking at this gorgeous golden packaging and applying this onto your skin.  And it doubles up as a multi-purpose balm that is safe enough to even put on your eyelids as a moisturizer, which would be particularly beneficial for dry and/or mature skin.

Your lips are one of the most prominent features on your face, so make sure you take good care of them with good quality and safe products!  If you have any other eco-friendly and cruelty-free lip-loving products that you enjoy, would love to hear about them in the comments below!
